Chloranil is used as a fungicide. It is used as an oxidizing agent in the organic synthesis especially for dye intermediates and vulcanization agent.
It is used as reagents for the oxidation and dehydrogenation of hydroaromatic compounds. It is useful in the synthesis of aromatized or lactones formed steroids and modified natural products. Metal dioxide such as selenium dioxide and manganses dioxide are also oxidising agents which convert alcohols into ketones, aromatic methyl groups into aldehyde or car boxylic acids, double bounds into alcohols, aldehydes into carboxylic acids, steroidal ketones into secolactones. But several side reactions are expected due to the lack of selectivity. DDQ and substituded quinones provide regioselective effectiveness for the preparation of target intermediates. |
